WHAT WILL THE CHANGES ON THE SUPREME COURT MEAN FOR REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS?
The U.S. Supreme Court and Roe v. Wade

The Senate is scheduled to vote on Supreme Court nominee Judge Samuel A. Alito Jr. January 31, 2006. His confirmation could have a profound impact on reproductive rights in this country for many years to come. Judge Alito will be replacing Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, who often was the deciding vote on women's reproductive rights cases. With so much at stake, it is imperative that the Senate fully probe Judge Alito on his views of the constitutional decisions on the right to privacy, including Roe v. Wade. As we did during Justice John Roberts' confirmation hearings, the Center for Reproductive Rights is calling for a fair and open nomination process. It could make all the difference in the lives and health of American women.
