SUPREME COURT LEGAL TEAM:
JANET CREPPS and NAN STRAUSS

JANET CREPPS is the Acting Director of the Domestic Legal Program at the Center for Reproductive Rights, a nonprofit legal advocacy organization dedicated to promoting and defending women's reproductive rights worldwide.

Since joining the Center in 1992, Ms. Crepps has been a key figure in the Center's fight to protect women's reproductive rights, including litigating cases against so-called "partial-birth abortion" bans, parental involvement laws and Targeted Regulations of Abortion Providers (TRAP). She has also headed the Center's federal and state policy offices, working with legislators and advocacy organizations to prevent the passage of legislation that will harm women's reproductive health and to promote legislation that ensures women's access to safe reproductive health care. In her current capacity, she continues to play an instrumental role in the Center's policy work, including briefing members of the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate on federal reproductive rights issues and legislation.

In addition to her work with the Center, Ms. Crepps has worked for legal advocacy organizations with a focus on reproductive rights issues. She served as an Assistant Public Defender in Anchorage, Alaska, and has worked in private practice.

Ms. Crepps is a graduate of the University of Washington Law School.

NAN STRAUSS is a Staff Attorney with the Domestic Legal Program at the Center for Reproductive Rights. Ms. Strauss’s litigation has included fighting so-called "partial-birth" abortion bans and challenging the FDA’s failure to approve Plan B emergency contraception for over-the-counter use. Prior to becoming Staff Attorney, Ms. Strauss served as Blackmun Fellow at the Center in 2003-2004. Ms. Strauss clerked for the Honorable Cheryl L. Pollak, a United States Magistrate Judge for the Eastern District of New York. A graduate of Yale University, Ms. Strauss earned her J.D from New York University Law School.

About the Center for Reproductive Rights

The Center for Reproductive Rights uses the law to advance reproductive freedom as a fundamental right that all governments are obligated to protect, respect and fulfill. Founded in 1992 (as the Center for Reproductive Law and Policy), the Center has the largest and most diverse reproductive rights docket in the U.S., and has won significant victories in state and federal courts, including two landmark cases in the Supreme Court: Stenberg v. Carhart (2000) and Ferguson v. City of Charleston (2001). Using international human rights law to advance reproductive freedom, the Center has worked with U.N. agencies, regional bodies, and more than 100 women’s organizations in 45 countries.
