11.07.11 - In October 2011 the Center for Reproductive Rights and the Moldovan Institute for Human Rights (IDOM) submitted a letter to the Country Report Task Forces of the Human Rights Committee. The objective was to encourage the Committee to select issues related to reproductive health and rights of Moldovan women and adolescents for Moldova’s third periodic report, due in 2013. Moldova will report in accordance with the new optional reporting procedure under the International Convention on Civil and Political Rights, the LOIPR (Lists of Issues Prior to Reporting) procedure.
The letter highlights reproductive rights-related violations committed within the Moldovan judicial system, the absence of mandatory sexuality education in schools and the lack of access to affordable modern contraceptives. The Center urges the Committee to include issues highlighted in the letter in its list of selected issues that the Moldovan government will be asked to report on in 2013.
