CRR Rallies on Capitol Hill with Coalition to Stop War on Women
Nancy Northup heads to D.C for Stand Up for Women’s Health Lobby Day
(PRESS RELEASE) Today, the Center for Reproductive Rights joined forces with thousands of women’s health activists for the Stand Up for Women’s Health Lobby Day being held in Washington, D.C. to speak out against the widespread attacks on women’s healthcare from the new House majority. Center for Reproductive Rights President Nancy Northup will stand with leaders during the rally in front of the U.S. Capitol with other pro-choice organizations, as they demand that elected officials reject the recent extreme anti-woman and anti-health proposals, and call for more commitment from the government to protect women’s health. With budget measures on the table that threaten to re-impose the Global Gag Rule and restrict the District of Columbia’s use of its own funds for abortion services, as well as radical anti-choice legislation, H.R. 3, bubbling up in the House of Representatives for a likely vote next week, Ms. Northup said the following:
“The writing is on the wall. The new House majority is intent on targeting women’s health in every possible way — staging an assault that ranges from contraceptive services to abortion coverage to international family planning. No pot has been left un-emptied in women’s health services. This unprecedented parade of anti-woman and anti-health proposals is the most blatantly hostile display of government intrusion into women’s personal medical decisions that we have seen in several decades.
“Today, we join women from across the country to speak out against these vicious attacks deceptively billed as reasonable federal legislation. The Center for Reproductive Rights is determined to protect women’s health from these dangerous and extreme proposals, and calls on women to join us in speaking out. The government has no business dictating women’s medical care. The costs of losing critical ground in this moment would be too high for our health and lives.”
