What's New -- April 2006

April 10, 2006

Dear Friend and Supporter,
At the Center we work globally and can see the effects of restrictive abortion laws all over the world. We are often surprised by how rarely the media acknowledges what life is actually like in countries where abortion is illegal. We are pleased that the New York Times explored women's lives in El Salvador, where abortion is banned, in Sunday's magazine. The Center's advocacy, education and policy work gave the story context, helping people understand the dire situation that women face in many countries. Click here to read the article > >

You can also take a look at our report on abortion laws in El Salvador, which was cited at length in the Times article.

While reading about what it is like to live in a country where abortion is banned, keep in mind that women in South Dakota are facing a very similar ban. Strikingly, the U.S. and El Salvador are among the few countries in the world that are moving towards greater restrictions on abortion. The bright side is that progress is being made in many parts of the world when it comes to recognizing reproductive rights as human rights. Click here to read about our recent victories in Mexico and Peru

Please make a donation to the Center…your support is crucial, now as always.

Thanks for your support,

Nancy Northup,
