CENTER LAUNCHES VOICE 4 CHOICE WEBSITE FOR LANDMARK CASE, GONZALES v. CARHART
On November 8, the Center for Reproductive Rights will stand before the Supreme Court to preserve the right to a safe and legal abortion and to protect the fundamental reproductive freedoms guaranteed to all women under Roe v. Wade. To help you stand with us during this critical moment in history, we have launched the Voice 4 Choice website:

www.voice4choice.org

Read about the case, make your voice heard, and become involved in this must-win battle to save a woman's right to choose. Our mission is historic. Our opposition is formidable. We need the support of every person who believes that freedom of choice is a fundamental right.

Stand by our side. Let your voice be heard.

CONGRATULATIONS LUISA!
Columbia Law School honored Luisa Cabal, Director of the Center's International Legal Program, with a "Distinguished Alumnus Award" by the Latina/o Law Students' Association (LALSA). Luisa's leadership has been key to the success of the Center's International Program. Women all over the world benefit from the outstanding legal advocacy carried out every day at the Center.

  • CENTER HELPS BLOCK PASSAGE OF TEEN ENDANGERMENT ACT IN SENATE
On September 30, the Senate blocked legislation that would have made it a federal crime for any person, other than a parent or guardian, to help a teen cross state lines to obtain an abortion, unless she had already met the requirements of her home state's parental involvement law. Nancy Northup, President of the Center, called Senators Clinton and Schumer and asked them to rally opposition to the bill. Hours later, the "Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act" did not pass due to lack of support. Click here to learn more > >

POLISH LAWYERS PREPARE TO DEFEND REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS IN A HOSTILE ENVIRONMENT
In September, the Center, in collaboration with our partners, conducted a four-day capacity-building training for Polish lawyers. The training was the first of its kind in the country, helping lawyers develop skills to litigate reproductive rights cases. Our training took place against the backdrop of a potentially serious legal threat to reproductive rights - a recently proposed constitutional amendment that further restricts abortion.
