The Center for Reproductive Rights believes that reproductive rights are human rights with which every woman is endowed. In partnership with activists and advocates from communities around the world, our International Program works to promote laws and policies that guarantee these rights.
Projects include research and advocacy in the areas of abortion law, female genital mutilation (FGM), maternal mortality, and access to contraception. In its global projects, the Center provides comparative legal information and analysis, building on research done in collaboration with our partners at the regional levels. The Center supports its advocacy on global themes through analysis of international and regional human rights treaties and conference documents.
Notable projects include a regularly updated table of the world’s abortion laws, the Center's advocacy kit on abortion law reform, FGM research documented in a 2000 book entitled Female Genital Mutilation: A Guide to Laws and Policies Worldwide, a report examining maternal mortality in Mali as a violation of women’s rights, and a briefing paper on emergency contraception (EC).
