Submission to the Special Rapporteur on the human rights of migrants regarding conditions of detention for immigrant women in the U.S.
The U.S. Legal Program submitted a letter to Mr. François Crépeau, Special Rapporteur on the human rights of migrants, on January 30, 2012, in response to a request for civil society consultations on the “detention of migrants in an irregular situation” for his thematic report to the Human Rights Council. The letter provides information about the gender-specific risks women face in immigration detention and their particular vulnerability to violations of their reproductive rights. Such violations include delays and denials of reproductive healthcare as well as the use of restraints against women during childbirth.
