Sonali Regmi

Sonali Regmi, Regional Director for Asia

Sonali returned to the Center in 2012 in conjunction with the opening of our Asia Regional Office in Kathmandu, Nepal. She had previously served as a summer legal intern in 2001.

Most recently, Sonali worked in the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Kathmandu as a Thematic Advisor focusing on anti-discrimination as well as economic, social, and cultural rights. She took a six-month sabbatical from that position in 2009 to work with the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan as a Human Rights Officer. Her position was based in Kabul, where she served as the liaison between the in-country human rights program and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva. She has also worked for UNIFEM and our partner, Forum for Women, Law and Development. Her work has consistently centered on gender issues and marginalized populations. 

Sonali has an LL.M. from the University of Toronto, with a concentration in Women's Rights in International Law and National and International Approaches to Reproductive and Sexual Health Law. She also holds an LL.M. from the University of Pune, a Bachelor of Laws and a B.A. in Political Science from Shivaji University in India.
